Transmitted Light Pocket Microscope

While working as a mechanical design engineer at Carson Optical, I had the opportunity to design a pocket-sized transmitted light microscope. Although several reflected light options exist in this category, far fewer exist for transmitted light microscopy. Through the course of this project, I worked directly with our design and manufacturing teams abroad. The challenge was to miniaturize all components of a standard transmission-style microscope into a simple portable package. All parts are intended to be injection molded plastic. Lens system was created from existing molds provided by our manufacturing partner.

Prototyping
Several prototypes were 3D printed on a Form 2 using White resin. Molded optics were provided by our manufacturing partner which made the prototypes fully functional. PCB prototypes were machined on a 3-axis mill.
Pre-Production Sample
First sample to be ejected from production mold! Always exciting. Slight adjustments to texture and tolerances in next iteration.
Thanks!
